Our SportsAid athlete reaches IAAF World Youth Championships and Youth Commonwealth Games

Congratulations to George Evans who has achieved his personal goals for 2015 having been selected to represent GB and NI for Discus at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Columbia (15 to 19 July 2015) and also Team Scotland for both Discus and Shot Putt at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa (5 to 11 September 2015).

Personal best

George has had a great year so far with a throw of 60.21m in the Discus at the Loughborough Students BUCS Trials and Open in April. At the time this put him 1st in Europe at the U18 age group. He went on to improve this again with a distance of 61.24m at the Scottish Athletics Throws & Jumps Grand Prix Series, in June. This made him the 5th best U-18 discus thrower in the world! Better was yet to come when George threw a personal best in discus reaching a distance of 61.35m and this was accompanied by a 17.56m throw in the Shot Putt to achieve the qualifying distance for Colombia and Samoa.

George is one of three young athletes we are supporting this year via SportsAid and we wish him the very best of luck in both these events.
